Westbury Park Lockdown Retreat

Before Covid, I was asked to redesign the planting in a Westbury Park garden to create a private retreat for a family with teenagers. Overlooked by nearby houses and with existing overgrown shrubs, the borders were cleared and new planting plans proposed. ‘Snow Queen’ Silver Birch have established well on the boundary and are underplanted with variegated Dogwoods to brighten the shady spots below. Roses, Passion Flower, and Clematis now cover the fences and walls. The planting was finished in early 2020, allowing the family to enjoy watching their garden grow while working from home.

She spent time listening to what I liked and didn't and how I wanted it to feel, then came up with a plan and encouraged me to be brave, taking out plants that were in the wrong positions and moving some. We were very fortunate to be able to watch the new plants grow while stuck at home during lockdown. It remains such a pretty garden that is easy to maintain and feels much bigger than before.”
